Removing refrigerant from a system into a container instead of releasing it.
Recovery moves refrigerant out of a system into a recovery cylinder so it can be recycled, reclaimed or destroyed. Releasing halocarbon refrigerants is prohibited. For systems covered by Canada's Federal Halocarbon Regulations, 2022, section 3 prohibits release and section 15 requires the certified person to recover halocarbon that would otherwise be released. In Ontario, systems outside federal scope fall under O. Reg. 463/10.
Use a recovery machine and cylinder rated for the refrigerant, weigh the cylinder as you fill it, and never mix refrigerants in one cylinder.
