Starting up a new or retrofitted system, verifying its performance and recording a baseline.
Commissioning covers pre-start checks, start-up, completing the charge, setting operating parameters, verifying integration with controls, and documenting the result. The recorded readings (pressures, temperatures, superheat, subcooling, amperage, airflow and the conditions they were taken in) become the baseline for later troubleshooting. In the Red Seal breakdown, commissioning is Major Work Activity E, 17% of the exam.
